Trust Yourself: The Neuroscience of Letting Go of Self-Doubt
The air is crisp, the leaves are falling, and the shorter days tell us that autumn has arrived. Honestly, this is my favorite season of all. I love the blue skies, the sunshine, and even the chill in the air. I get excited about pulling out my old favorite jumpers and bundling up for those morning walks. But more than that, autumn always feels like an invitation to slow down and breathe, to reflect. As nature prepares to rest, we get this beautiful opportunity to pause, too—to think about what we’ve accomplished this year, what dreams are still waiting, and what we want from the rest of 2024.
But if I’m honest, I know that this time of year might have you feeling a little stuck, maybe even overwhelmed. Maybe you’ve been carrying too many roles—managing your career, family, and relationships. Or maybe life has thrown some tough transitions your way, like illness, divorce, or watching your kids grow up and move on. All these things can weigh you down, slow your momentum, and make you question whether that bold, beautiful life you imagined back in January is still possible.
When was the last time you did something just for you?
Let’s be real: life can be exhausting. And when things get busy, the first thing to go is usually *you*. We stop making time for ourselves, stop doing the things that light us up, because everything and everyone else comes first. But here’s the thing—I care about you, and I want you to thrive, not just survive this season. And for that, you need to *show yourself some kindness.*
So, tell me—when was the last time you did something just for you? Something that made you smile or feel truly alive?
It’s time to let go of the “shoulds” and start reconnecting with YOU. What would your life feel like if you took this autumn as your moment to begin again? To realign with the dreams you had for 2024, and more importantly, to get clear on how YOU want to feel.
I want you to take a moment, find a cozy spot with a warm drink, maybe wrap yourself in your favourite blanket, and head outside into the autumn sun with these questions:
1. What brings me joy? (Write down at least 10 things)
2. If fear of failure wasn’t holding me back, what would I do? (You can have more than one dream!)
3. I can be kinder to myself by… (Write down ten or more ways)
4. What traits do I admire most about myself? (List at least ten things)
5. I’m proud that I… (Celebrate five moments, big or small)
6. These things bring me happiness… (List ten or more specific moments or experiences)
7. An adventure I dream of is… (Describe it fully—what do you see, hear, smell, and feel?)
This autumn is your chance to let go—let go of the pressure, the expectations, and the guilt that’s been keeping you from caring for yourself the way you deserve. Let this season be about YOU.
Because this Autumn? It’s just for you.
