the voice in your head that keeps you stuck

I spent time with my business mentor earlier this month and she asked me a great question.

“Why haven’t you achieved your bold audacious goal already?”

Such a great question right?

And the answer is, because of that loud, bullying voice that can take over. It’s because of my inner critic.

So, let’s talk about your nagging, bullying voice that can derail you and keep you from applying for that promotion, building your business, or voicing your opinion in the meetings.

If you’re afraid to pick up the phone and sell your services, your business will not grow.

If you’re too anxious to stand up and present to a room full of people, or you can’t voice your opinion to your boss, your pathway to success is going to be slow and painful.

Only it is possible to quieten your inner critic.

Your inner critic is there to keep you safe, so make friends with it.  It wants the best for you it just goes about it all wrong. That little gremlin is reminding you of all your fears and limiting beliefs because it doesn’t want you to get hurt.

How embarrassing would it be if you pitched your ideas to the CEO and failed – oh the humiliation!  Or what if you launched your new product and no one bought it?  You’d be a failure – everyone will laugh, people will whisper behind your back… You knew all along you weren’t enough – smart enough, creative enough, tall enough, short enough, experienced enough… whatever your ‘enoughs’ are.

Here’s the 4 steps to quietening your gremlin.

Your inner gremlin keeps you small and stuck by focusing on all the insecurities and hurts that we all carry. It’s our hurt and insecure inner child that’s bearing the brunt of it’s ranting. Your first step is to reassure your inner child that they are safe and that you will take care of them – no matter what.

Your second step is to pay close attention and distinguish between your inner gremlins voice and your intuition. Remember the inner critic is mean and vile in the way it’s speaking to you. It will be cruel. Your intuition will be calm and supportive and knowing.

Your third step is to become aware of what your inner critic is saying. When is it screaming the loudest? What worries it so much? And why does that worry it so much?

Once you have the answers to those questions and you understand the story and how it’s holding you back there’s a really simple and effective strategy to let go of all those hurts and limiting beliefs.
